The Older Dog and Dogs with Special Needs
Older dogs have a mellowness and wisdom often lacking in younger ones. They are very special friends and should be treated with love and respect and their lives made as comfortable as possible.
Pet dogs are living longer now than ever before but as their bodies begin to deteriorate a number of age related problems can occur. Older dogs can become partially sighted and deaf. Arthritis can occur in one or several joints making movement difficult and slow. It may need to relieve itself more frequently, cannot stand for any length of time and is less able to cope with extremes in temperature. All these things can cause problems for the dog groomer and difficulty for the dog, so we aim to provide as much comfort and care as we possibly can for our elderly dogs. We always leave a little extra time so that thay can rest if they are tiring and toilet as and when necessary.
Senior dogs often have little tolerance for lengthy de-matting and breed standard clipping. When this time becomes apparent, we will advise you of a clip or trim to keep your dog clean and tidy with the minimum of grooming and standing time for your dog.
